AMON
AMARTH
Same Difference
By Alex Ristic
For those of you too young to remember, there used to
be a TV ad in the 80s that had a small laundry
detergent company performing a wash test, with clothing,
against one of its bigger competitors. The deal was
that even though the smaller company didn't have as
big a profile, its product cleaned as well as its competitor,
as evidenced by the commercial's punch line, "I
can't tell the difference. Can you tell the difference?"
Well,
that's what immediately came to mind upon hearing and
seeing the latest offering from Sweden's Amon Amarth,
The Crusher. The cover looks eerily similar to the bands
rocking previous effort, The Avenger, with flames and
cartoon-like imagery dominating the booklet. And then
there's the music. While the songs may have been tweaked
here and there, and the arrangements might be different,
the straight-ahead attack on The Crusher is as intense
as its predecessor, and the lyrical content just as
dark and evil. The death metal attack has been retained,
but it seems closely related to the group's past output.

CATASTROPHIC
Cleansing the dead
by: Aaron McKay
Once there were four. With some developments still pending,
there are only two remaining. Florida was the breeding
ground for the most brutal and harsh bands on the planet
at the time: Obituary, Morbid Angel, Deicide, and, of
course, Death (remember that Cannibal Corpse are transplants).
Death is on permanent hiatus in favour of Control Denied,
and Obituary has seemingly followed suit. Both Morbid
Angel and Deicide are still issuing material, but wait
there
is a dark horse in the running. While currently removed
from the Morrisound scene, Catastrophic may be what
you need to fill the bill.
Composed of members from New York's viciously awesome
Pyrexia and Trevor Peres of Obituary and Meathook Seed,
Catastrophic is every bit as intense and fascinatingly
brutal as any of the bands mentioned above. Very blunt
in their approach, this Metal Blade outfit is set to
cleanse the genre of its extensive riff-raff. Let The
Cleansing begin

HATE
Keeping the Dogmas at Bay
By
Adrian The Energizer Bromley
Even though violent Polish death metal act Hate have
just released their debut for WWIII records, Holy Dead
Trinity (a collection of their older material), vocalist/guitarist
Adam The First Sinner tells UNRESTRAINED! the band is
hard at work assembling the next record as we speak.
A busy Adam fills us in: "Our third album, Cains
Way, has just been finished. Its definitely the
strongest and the fastest material weve ever made.
The new album is in vein of the previous ones, but its
much better produced. We spent several months at Serakos
Studio in Warsaw working with producer Robert Srzednicki.
He managed to bring out all the power and the evil from
the record. I think the new album sounds killer.
